Chapter 15 The Day It All Held Together

The North Zone Security control room was fully operational.

Multiple LED screens displayed live feeds. Thermal sensors showed green across all zones. Access control panels were active and running smoothly.

Then suddenly, an update came in—

“The central audit team will arrive in one hour.”

Mahi’s expression turned serious immediately.

“Keep all documentation ready,” she instructed.

Vedant, calm as ever, added, “Don’t let panic spread.”

Mahi continued checking everything on her tablet, ensuring nothing was out of place.

Soon, the audit team entered the room. Their questions came one after another—sharp and precise.

“Backup redundancy?”

“Data encryption level?”

“Fail-safe response time?”

Mahi answered confidently, without hesitation.

“Primary and secondary servers are in parallel sync.”

“End-to-end encrypted grid.”

“Response time under three seconds.”

The audit head then initiated a live simulation test.

One zone was intentionally taken offline.

For two seconds, the screens blinked. The room filled with tension.

And then—backup activated.

Green signals returned.

Silence.

The audit head gave a small nod.

“Impressive.”

Vedant looked at her—just a slight nod.

Approval.

At the same time, in Aryan’s cabin at headquarters—

He was watching the live status monitor when his phone vibrated.

A message flashed on the screen:

North Zone Cleared. Fully Operational.

Aryan leaned back in his chair, exhaling slowly.

“Good.”

He picked up the intercom.

“Prepare the internal announcement. Project closed successfully.”

His voice remained steady.

But his eyes held a quiet sense of pride.

By evening, back in the North Zone control room—

The entire team broke into applause.

Mahi removed her helmet. Her hands trembled slightly—exhaustion finally catching up.

Vedant walked up to her.

“Done.”

She gave a soft smile.

“Done.”

“Return tickets are booked,” he informed her.

They left together for Bengaluru.

On the flight, Mahi noticed an update about a party being organized at the office.

She turned slightly toward Vedant, who was seated beside her.

“There’s going to be a party?”

“Yes,” he replied. “Aryan will handle it.”

“So… we’ll go directly to the office?” she asked.

“Hm.”

After that, Mahi fell silent.

That night, at the company headquarters—

The main hall was beautifully decorated for a corporate celebration.

Behind the stage, a large LED screen displayed:

North Zone Security – Successfully Operational

Soft music played. People mingled. Glasses clinked.

Then the doors opened.

Vedant and Mahi walked in together.

They had just arrived from travel, yet both looked composed. Mahi in a beautiful outfit with open hair and minimal makeup. Vedant in a dark suit—calm and controlled.

People approached them.

“Congratulations, ma’am.”

“Great leadership, sir.”

Mahi responded with polite smiles.

Vedant simply nodded.

After a while, they stood side by side—close, yet with a slight distance between them.

Just then, a well-dressed woman approached them. She looked confident, professional.

“Mr. Vedant, impressive execution. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Vedant gave a polite smile.

“Thank you.”

She stepped a little closer.

“Maybe we should collaborate sometime.”

Mahi stood beside him, her expression neutral.

In that moment, without even looking at her, Vedant moved his hand slightly—and gently took Mahi’s hand.

Not tight. Just a steady, quiet hold.

Mahi was slightly surprised—but she didn’t pull away.

The woman noticed.

Vedant, still calm, said,

“You can send collaboration proposals through official email. The team will review them.”

The woman smiled awkwardly.

“Of course.”

She excused herself and left.

Vedant still held Mahi’s hand for two more seconds.

Then he let go.

Mahi glanced at him.

“Official mail, huh?”

He didn’t respond. Just looked ahead.

Soon after, Aryan stepped onto the stage.

Confident. Powerful.

“North Zone wasn’t just a project. It was trust.”

Applause filled the room.

Cake cutting followed. The team celebrated. Food was served.

Aryan casually picked something from a plate and ate.

Vani was busy interacting with guests nearby.

About fifteen minutes later, Aryan’s expression began to change.

He loosened his collar.

Redness appeared along his neck.

His composed expression shifted into discomfort.

He walked straight to Vani.

In a low voice, he said,

“Vani… please take me home.”

“What happened? Are you okay?”

“I don’t feel well… let’s go.”

Vani noticed the red rashes spreading across his neck and hands.

“What is happening to you?”

“Allergy…”

His voice had grown heavy.

Without wasting a second, she supported him and brought him to the parking area. She helped him into the car and drove him home herself.

Once inside the house, the lights turned on automatically.

Vani guided him to the sofa.

“Sit… no, lie down.”

She made him lie down.

Suddenly, Aryan felt nauseous. He sat up abruptly.

“Vani…”

She immediately helped him to the washroom.

He threw up.

Vani supported his back, adjusting his hair gently.

Panic was clearly visible on her face.

“What is happening to you? Why is your body turning so red?”

Aryan, breathing heavily, said,

“Peanut… maybe it was in the sauce… I’m allergic.”

Vani ran to the bedroom, opened the drawer beside the bed, and quickly found his emergency medicine.

She rushed back with water.

“Jana… take this.”

Aryan took the tablet and closed his eyes.

She helped him lie down again.

“Come on, let’s move to the bed.”

But Aryan held her hand.

His grip was weak—but firm enough to stop her.

“Please… stay like this for a while.”

Vani sat beside him.

“I’m here.”

He kept holding her hand.

Slowly, his breathing began to stabilize.

The next morning—

Aryan opened his eyes.

The redness had almost disappeared.

He tried to sit up.

Just then, Vani walked into the room. Seeing him awake, she rushed to his side.

“Jana… are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

“I was so scared last night…”

He smiled faintly.

“Really?”

“Yes. Why do you eat anything without thinking?”

Aryan sat at the edge of the bed. Vani stood in front of him.

The next second, he pulled her closer by the waist.

Resting his face against her stomach, he closed his eyes.

Vani gently ran her fingers through his hair.

“You love me so much, don’t you?” he murmured. “Even a little thing happens to me, and you get so scared.”

She smiled softly.

“That’s why I call you ‘jana’… my life is in you… my little laddu.”

“I’m not little. I’m twenty-nine,” he said, laughing lightly.

“For me, you’ll always be my little laddu.”

He chuckled.

“You and your cute names… both are the same.”

Meanwhile—

Mahi returned to her quiet space, immersing herself in her painting

And Vedant spent time with his family.

Life, for a moment, felt steady again
